Spinney Improvement Project Update

Published: 02 October 2023

2nd October 2023:

The Chair of West Moors Town Council (WMTC) Cllr Rita Burke joined local residents Angie Light and Hazel and Keith Randle, at the Spinney (located in between Southern Avenue and Heatherdown Road) on Saturday, to continue with the well overdue improvements of this green space.
Also part of this volunteer group is Tom and Rachel Keane.
While the weather is still kind, they plan to meet Saturday mornings, when possible, for a few hours. All greenery that is removed, is collected by Dorset Council Waste Services or Dorset Council on the Monday.
This project evolved earlier this year, when local resident, Keith Randle, approached West Moors Town Council to ask if he could form a Community Group to help tidy up the Spinney. As this area is Dorset Council land, permission had to be sought from the Open Spaces Team, which WMTC received at the beginning of September.
So far the volunteers, Friends of the Spinney, have spent 33 hours working hard to revert this green space into the attractive area it was.
Achievements to date are; the path access from both sides have been cleared and widened for easier access, a vast amount of densely overgrown brambles, scrub and thorn have been cut back, and there is more where that came from!
