Queen Elizabeth II 1926-2022

Published: 12 Sep 22

On the afternoon of Thursday 8th September, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the nation's figurehead for seven decades, Britain's longest-reigning hereditary monarch, since the age of 25, died peacefully, aged 96, with her Family in Balmoral. West Moors Town Council extends their condolences to the Royal Family and as a sign of respect for Her Majesty’s dedication and service to the Nation and the Commonwealth, flew the Union flag on the Petwyn at half-mast. Additionally, that evening's scheduled meeting was adjourned, after a two-minute silence was held by all Committee members present. Now it is time to reflect on the unforgettable contribution made by Queen Elizabeth II and share memories of a life full of glory that was not vain and a national presence that was consistent and adored. A Book of Condolence will be available at West Moors Library, Station Road, alternatively an online National Book of Condolence is available on the Royal Family’s website: https://www.royal.uk/ Mourning is very personal, so people may want to remember Her Majesty in their own way. Chair of West Moors Town Council, Cllr Rita Burke has laid flowers on the War Memorial on the Petwyn, which residents are also invited to do so if they wish.
