West Moors Fun Run

West Moors Fun Run

Published: 10 May 26

What a fantastic morning we had at our first West Moors Fun Run! A wonderful display of community spirit, lots of laughs and over £500 raised for our chosen organisations. We're so grateful to all those who came and made it such a great event. A special shout out to Ian Carpenter, who was the last person on the course at 12pm, completing an incredible 17 laps, or a half marathon! Huge thanks again to Moors Manor Care Home - Barchester Healthcare for sponsoring the event, to Lee from Helm Wellness for a fun warm-up and to the East Dorset Beekeepers Association for attending in support of our bee theme. Thanks to West Moors Youth Club for providing much-needed fuel after the run, and for the free fruit donated by Ferndown in the Community , which went down a storm! Last but not least, thanks to our Councillors, volunteers and marshals from West Moors Football Club, who kept everyone going well and in the right direction. We'd love to see your photos and hear your feedback! Shall we do it again next year? Read More...

Dorset Waste have informed us of a service disruption in West Moors today. Vehicle problems mean they may not have collected your glass this morning, but they will aim to return as soon as possible to complete the missed round, hopefully this afternoon. Please leave your glass containers out to allow them to do so. The rest of your recycling should have been collected as normal. If your collection is missed ongoing, you can check for updates and request another collection by clicking the title link. Read More...

This year's nominees were: * Lee Long - for bringing smiles and magic to residents with year-round garden displays on Station Road, while also raising money for charity * Noel Karpinski - for his dedication and hard work behind the scenes at the Castleman Community Larder, completing the hard, heavy, manual jobs and giving back to his community come rain or shine * Lynne Smith - for contributing to the wider community; working with children in school, with the elderly through various church groups and with individuals who need help and assistance with everyday activities * Jo Breen - for her volunteer work with the West Moors Dementia Awareness Group, giving her time to research dementia and working as secretary for the organisation, helping to make West Moors a dementia-friendly place * Ken Burke - for generously giving his time to maintaining West Moors Cemetery; going above and beyond to help keep this important community asset neat and tidy * Lynne Morris - for her work as Chair of the West Moors Dementia Action Group for nearly 11 years; striving to make West Moors a safe and caring place for people with dementia and their carers The Good Citizen Award Panel chose Ken Burke as this year's worthy winner.
