West Moors Fallen - WWI

Information compiled by Lynne Anderson, 1st West Moors Scout Group, 2025. The project started as a way to provide background information to the Scouts and Cubs on the fallen of WWI shown on the War Memorial on the Petwyn. It became a way to enhance the "Poppies on the Petwyn" display in 2025.

Internet search engines and family history sites add extra details to verify the information is correct. News articles and memories of descendants add personal details and social commentary. Special thanks go to Kevin Wormley, a West Moors resident who had already done so much work compiling information about WWII, and to Les Lovell for sharing family history and photos.

The links for many of the sources used are listed on the introduction sheet below.

The project and search for more detail will continue, so if you know the story behind the men or women of West Moors who gave their lives that we might live, or who fought bravely and returned, then please get in touch with Lynne, who will be happy to add your memories so we do not forget: gslwestmoors@gmail.com

West Moors Fallen - WWII

This research was carried out by resident Kevin Wormley in 2024. Lynne presented the information in the same style as the above documents for the Remembrance display in 2025.

Remembrance Walks

As part of the research completed for Remembrance 2025, the Scouts followed two trails around West Moors, pausing where families of the fallen had lived to hear more about their circumstances. Details are below.
