Race Information

The aim:

An inclusive community event, where people of all ages and abilities can enjoy some fresh air and exercise together. Walk, jog or run the distance of your choice - or come along and cheer others on!

The course:

A 1.25km loop starting on Fryer Field and moving through Hatchards Copse and a small section of the Castleman Trailway. The course is flat and off-road. Terrain is largely grass, with a small section of loose stone and trail paths. The ground may be soft and muddy after rain, so while wheelchairs and prams are welcome, accessibility will be weather dependent. The course will be assessed for safety prior to the beginning of the race.

Individuals can choose how many laps to do - walk round once, complete 4 laps to run 5K or 8 laps to run 10K! The final whistle will be blown at 12pm - the fittest among us can see how many laps they can run!

This event will NOT BE TIMED. You're welcome to track your own time, but please be considerate of other entrants of mixed abilities, and ensure you give way to others as required.

Whatever your fitness level, whatever your pace; join in and have fun!

The theme:

The theme is 'Save the Bees', in line with World Bee Day later in the month. May is an important month for pollinators, and we want to help you help them! All entrants will receive a digital guide on small steps you can take to support bees, and everyone will receive a medal and a packet of bee-friendly wildlower seeds on the day.

Feel free to dress for the theme if you'd like to - think yellow, stripes or wings!

Tickets

All entrants must have registered by buying a ticket prior to the race. This helps us control numbers and covers our basic running costs. Under 5's can enter for free, but please still register them by selecting an under 5's ticket. Please note under 5's tickets do not receive a medal - if you want your little ones to receive a medal, please purchase an under 18's ticket instead.

Entry is charged at £5 for adults and £3 for under 18's, plus a small ticket fee. Tickets can be purchased using the link at the top of the page.

All profit will be split between two organisations offering vital services in our community - The Vine Youth Club and Castleman Community Larder.

If you'd like to raise more money for one or both of these charities, please download and print a sponsorship form here

Facilities:

Free parking is available in the Pavilion car park off Bond Avenue, and the Memorial Hall Car Park off Station Road. Parking is limited, so please help to ease traffic congestion by walking (or running) to Fryer Field if you can. If you need to drive, please leave plenty of time to find a space and get yourself to the starting point.

Toilets (including an accessible toilet) are available in the Pavilion building.

A coffee van will be on site, and the Youth Club will be open for bacon sandwiches, cold drinks, snacks and sweets. First Aid support will be located near the Pavilion building.

Signing in on the day:

  • A pre-run brief will take place at 10am outside the Pavilion building.
  • HELM Wellness will get everyone warmed up before the race.
  • The race will start at approx. 10:15am. Again, the race is NOT TIMED, so start when you're ready and go at your own pace.
  • When you've finished, head to the sign-in table near the Pavilion to collect your medal.
