A31 Ringwood Improvement Scheme: Source of information

The A31 roadworks are now in full swing and will produce significant disruption to traffic using the stretch of the A31 adjacent to Ringwood, but also affect roads in the surrounding area; the local bus services (see elsewhere, particularly the Bus Information page) have already had to be re-timed.
In addition to the usual restrictions involved in such work, there will be closures/diversions in place in the latter part of January: for more information and to keep up to date with latest progress, visit National Highways web site.

Oakhurst Road: temporary closure

Due to unforeseen circumstances the original work requiring a closure of Oakhurst Road did not take place as planned last year. The revised dates for the work will be between 17th January and a date in early February, provisionally the 4th. The closure will enable the installation and replacement of the gas main running along the highway.

Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP): Dorset Council

In March 2021 the UK government published its strategy ... " Bus Back Better: national bus strategy for England ".  This sets out the vision and opportunity to deliver better bus services for passengers across England. In response, Dorset Council are developing a Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) to make bus services: more attractive .. cheaper .. easier to use .. faster .. more reliable .. greener.

Castleman Trailway - significant work to come - and temporary closures!

Beginning early January and continuing until March, Dorset Council are carrying-out significant work along the Castleman Trailway (the old railway track) between Ashley Heath and West Moors.  The trail is a popular local leisure route used by walkers, cyclists and horse-riders, but the surface quality has deteriorated and becomes extremely muddy after wet weather, reducing year-round access. The work will improve drainage, widen the path, provide more accessible access points and install a higher quality stone surface. The Trailway will have to be closed in those areas where work is being undertaken.
Read more about the work on the news section of the Dorset Council web site (opens in a new window).

Bus service - changes to timings ( Ringwood road works )

The changes to bus timings of the X6 and 38 which were originally intended to come into force in November, are now scheduled to operate as of Tuesday 4th January, 2022 ... the first 'working' day after the New Year period. See our Bus Information page for more detail and a link to timetables. In essence, be prepared for your usual service (after the early morning ) to run some 10 or so minutes LATER than you've been used to.
