West Moors Library

west moors library

West Moors library has been on its current site for over 40 years. During this time it has changed dramatically. In 2003 an extension was added to provide computer facilities and a meeting area during and out of opening hours. Money was bequeathed to the Parish Council by Daphne Harrison which was used for the building whilst Dorset County Council library service provided the computer facilities.

The Library is centrally located on Station Road, at the corner with Moorlands Road. It is conveniently adjacent to the local shopping centre. Access to the building is easy to obtain for those with mobility restrictions - with door-activation pads for wheelchair users. There is a small car park at the rear.

NEWS FROM THE LIBRARY . . . .

Library: opens for 'walk-in' visits

Libraries are now open for 'walk-in' visits. The Library here operates to normal [ pre-Lockdown ] hours (see below), but with limited numbers; face-covering is required & contact details will be taken. There are bookable slots for use of the PCs; the ' Order and Collect ' service will also be available.
No seating is offered and appropriate 'quarantine' precautions will be in force for the return of books etc. Hand sanitisers will be available. All 'normal' regulations regarding length of borrowing, fees etc., are in force.

No immediate return to in-house 'clubs' - it will probably be well into the summer for those.

Facilities:

Along with the building the library service too has been transformed. No longer are you expected to be very quiet - in fact you are encouraged to join in the many events we host. Self-service machines were introduced several years ago and all computers recently upgraded. We have also had the outside of the building recently refurbished with new windows and pathway and inside new heating system and up dated lighting.

We now see ourselves as an information point and community facility. Books are no longer the only thing we offer!
